Chicago Chorale presents Early and Late Masters
For its final program of the season, Chorale presents the major works of two exceptionally influential composers. Separated by 300 years, Palestrina and Thompson both established styles that are traceable through the many composers who followed them. These works are seldom held in live performance and rarely, if ever, heard together. This concert spotlights the exquisite blend and expressivity of the choir, virtues that led theChicago Tribune’sJohn von Rhein to name Chorale’s tribute to Arvo Pärt the “Finest Choral Performance of 2015.”

Please join us in experiencing the majesty and drama of these two outstanding works.

Bruce's Blog: Adventures in Programming

Chorale’s current project features some of the most unusual programming we have ever put out there. We have paired two majora cappellaworks which, on the surface, bear little resemblance to one another: the magisterialMissa Papae Marcelliby G.P. da Palestrina (c. 1525-1594), andThe Peaceable Kingdomby Randall Thompson (1899-1984). The two works are approximately the same length, and require similar vocal forces; and they are both pieces with which most choral musicians are broadly familiar, but which few of them have actually sung.
