What does it mean that Subterranean Super Sale Eve falls on Friday the 13th? Nothing, we hope. Devoid of any harbingers of doom, it rained throughout the entirety of our last iteration, precipitating an after-hours tarp collapse that flooded the…swimming section! Was that lucky, or unlucky? Were those flooded bins half empty or half full? Trick question. They were overflowing. In the end, the sports/outdoor section fared well - the only things unaccounted for were a hockey mask, an axe, and a little kid named Jason.
Rather than cursed, we think our timing may be fortuitous…smack dab between Halloween and the last dregs of Oktoberfest, we are equally well-stocked for both. Costumes and horrifying décor, galore! Along with the remains of a dear friend’s brother’s erstwhile Irish bar. Looking for mirrored beer signs, spirited shot glasses, or steins big enough to drown a squirrel? Look no further.
As ever - things you want, things you need, stupefying panoply guaranteed: games, toys, relics, art, furniture, apparel, appliances, lighting, music, instruments, kitchenware, jewelry, plants, books, books, books…and a wide array of flotsam and jetsam.
In the time between Subterranean Super Sales, magic reigned…during the Avon Walk in San Francisco, two enchanted Walka Walkas glimpsed humpback whales from the Golden Gate Bridge. In a hollow down by the Mississippi, two subterranean sisters marveled in day-darkness at the moon passing in front of the sun. In the basement of wonders…who knows? This just may be your luckiest one yet.
