IN THE COMMUNITY
ASA Chicagoland Roundtable: Philanthropy’s Response to Funding Threats in Aging Services

Friday, August 1, 8:30–10:30am Central on Zoom
Provided by Rush University and American Society on Aging
Free; Registration Required
Visit this
website to access past sessions.

What is the role of philanthropy with looming risk to older adults with threats to the Older American’s Act and impending cuts to Medicaid, SNAP, and other federally funded services alongside tightening state budgets? These changes will have far-reaching consequences for people’s health and well-being, as well as for the systems and organizations that serve them.

Join us for a timely and important conversation with leading philanthropic funders as they discuss how current threats to healthcare and social safety net programs—compounded by a challenging political climate—are shaping their funding strategies to protect older adults and other vulnerable populations.

We will reflect on lessons from past funding crises — including the Illinois budget impasse under Governor Rauner — and discuss more recent challenges like the chilling effects of exclusionary policy actions, many individuals risk losing access to supports and services.

To explore how philanthropy is adapting to support resilience and innovation in the field, we’ll hear from:
  • Greg DiDomenico, President & CEO, Community Memorial Foundation
  • Emily Hinsey, Chief Program Officer, Grantmakers in Aging
  • Mary O'Donnell, President & CEO, RRF Foundation for Aging
  • Maria Pesqueira, President, Healthy Communities Foundation
Moderated by: Karen Kolb, Manager, Senior Services, City of Chicago Department of Family & Support Services
