It has been great fun to watch the joy and smiles on the faces of Lunch Gathering attendees as they watched Jack Snapper display part of his wind up toy collection and tested them out. They have been a fun contribution to our give-away table. Jack has collected wind up toys since he was five; they come in all varieties, metal and plastic, hopping and rolling, some going straight and some changing direction, animals and vehicles of all varieties. He has brought an assortment for several months.

In addition I have been privileged to take some home for my grandkids and get to watch their delighted smiles and their pleasure as they watch them move around the floor. I also have a son who teaches lower school science and he has taken a couple which he will use as examples when he has students develop projects using circuits and other STEM projects.

Stop by our give-away table at the next Lunch Gathering and enjoy testing them out and take a few to share with others.

2025 National Survey of Villages
Villages National Survey Launch Party & Info Session
Tuesday, August 5, 1 Central

Join the Village to Village Network (VtVN) and Rutgers Hub for Aging Collaboration to learn about an exciting new initiative launching in August: the
2025 National Survey of Villages. The goal of this project is to survey as many operational Villages as possible to expand our understanding of what the Village Movement is today. We want your Village to be part of it! The webinar will feature speakers from VtVN, the Rutgers Hub for Aging Collaboration, and Village leaders like yourself.

It has been 10 years since the last national survey of Villages was conducted. It is time for refreshed data to describe the work of operational Villages today. This project will allow us to answer key questions about Villages, such as:

• What is the range of the organizational and leadership structures in Villages?
• How do Villages structure their membership programs?
• What are their funding sources?
• What types of services and programs do Villages most commonly provide?
• Who do they partner with?

Insights into these questions will strengthen communications and advocacy for the Village Movement at the local, state, and national levels. It also will serve as the foundation for future explorations into best practices and impact.

IN THE COMMUNITY
ASA Chicagoland Roundtable: Philanthropy’s Response to Funding Threats in Aging Services

Friday, August 1, 8:30–10:30am Central on Zoom
Provided by Rush University and American Society on Aging
Free; Registration Required
Visit this
website to access past sessions.

What is the role of philanthropy with looming risk to older adults with threats to the Older American’s Act and impending cuts to Medicaid, SNAP, and other federally funded services alongside tightening state budgets? These changes will have far-reaching consequences for people’s health and well-being, as well as for the systems and organizations that serve them.

Join us for a timely and important conversation with leading philanthropic funders as they discuss how current threats to healthcare and social safety net programs—compounded by a challenging political climate—are shaping their funding strategies to protect older adults and other vulnerable populations.

We will reflect on lessons from past funding crises — including the Illinois budget impasse under Governor Rauner — and discuss more recent challenges like the chilling effects of exclusionary policy actions, many individuals risk losing access to supports and services.

To explore how philanthropy is adapting to support resilience and innovation in the field, we’ll hear from:
  • Greg DiDomenico, President & CEO, Community Memorial Foundation
  • Emily Hinsey, Chief Program Officer, Grantmakers in Aging
  • Mary O'Donnell, President & CEO, RRF Foundation for Aging
  • Maria Pesqueira, President, Healthy Communities Foundation
Moderated by: Karen Kolb, Manager, Senior Services, City of Chicago Department of Family & Support Services
